Chain Mail

"Please read quietly then send it back on its journey"

I haven't had one of these chain emails for a while, I remember 10 years ago they were almost a weekly occurrence. Someone in accounts would get an email from a friend and it would usually follow a format like this:

The Dalai Lama says: 'The secret to happiness is':
  1. Smile at a stranger
  2. Shake hands with the next person you see
  3. Watch 'Friends' with friends!
  4. Say something encouraging to a child
  5. Climb your neighbours tree and make monkey sounds
  6. Look someone in the eye and tell them they are 'great, greater than great'
  7. Eat chocolate and marzipan and pretend it's golden mud
  8. Go tickle a trout and whisper poetry to it
  9. Listen to a car alarm and laugh as if it was telling you a joke.
[Then comes the stinger]
  • Pass this message onto 5 people and you will get a lucky surprise
  • Pass this message onto 10 people and you will have the best sex of your life tonight
  • Pass this message onto 15 people and you will be met by Elvis at the Pearly Gates when you die.
{If you don't pass this on all the happiness in the world will be reduced to the size of a golf ball, which will then be lost in the rough of Satan's fairway}.

I wouldn't mind forwarding a message like this on (not this one in particular) but one with a coherent message, if it wasn't for the promise and the threat. I would love one day to see a positive message come through to me that was driven purely by superstitious nonsense like God, luck or fate.

Here's one I might start:

All people are good. You are a good person and have the capacity to do good things. It all just starts with you, no one else.
{If you want to send this message on to a few friends, then go for it, you won't necessarily gain or lose anything by doing so. It's entirely up to you}.
